Dom was famous for his distinctive technique of striking the edge of the Chinas on both sides successively, which eliminated edge tension on his HHX China cymbals. This process gave them a distinctive, wavy appearance.

To recreate this effect, SABIAN craftsmen applied a special lathing process to the top of the Dominator. Combined with raw bell and HHX hammering, this produces a freer, trashier cymbal that opens quickly for a fast, dark attack. This process also gives the cymbal its unique wavy appearance.
