Attribute of the griots.
Member of the membranophone family, the djembe originated in West African countries, and more particularly attached to the Malinke people of Northern Guinea before spreading throughout Africa where it played an important role in the social life of villages, an attribute of the griots, these singing musicians who were historians of their tribe. And if the first examples were made of tree trunks hollowed out with an axe before being covered with a stretched goat skin, it did not take long for Western societies to test, sometimes successfully, different materials such as PVC. This participated in its development in our countries where it happily accompanies pop, blues or rock music as well.
Infinite variations.
What is the reason for this percussion's success? Its power and harmonic richness. Because the djembe delivers both low tones and full tones, rich in medium frequencies, and allows infinite variations depending on where it is struck on the skin. Obviously, with these PVC Tanga, you don't go back to the plant and animal sources of the instrument, but you do have a percussion instrument that is as effective as the original models, of course, but also easier to maintain and keep in good condition.
