Among the most prized tones for guitarists, the gold and silver Centaur-style pedals are legendary transparent overdrives/boosts from the ’90s. The silver version offers an alternative voice with a broader gain range, approaching a distortion pedal when pushed to its limits. The gain knob is actually a blend control between the dry signal and the circuit’s overdriven signal, mixing your core tone and attack with a saturated signal that adds pleasing harmonics. With the gain set low and the volume high, you get a clean boost for more volume and clarity; with the gain at mid to high settings, you’ll get a natural, warm, and fairly transparent overdrive that will warm up and enhance your playing. The Treble knob lets you adjust high frequencies for a brighter or smoother sound. The Horseman delivers all this character at a decidedly attractive price.

First, it offers 2 modes (Gold and Silver) that capture the sounds and gain ranges of the gold and silver versions, providing two distinct overdrive characters (switch modes by holding the footswitch for more than 1.5 seconds). An internal voltage converter boosts 9V up to 18V for improved playing dynamics and, above all, more headroom, getting even closer to the harmonically rich response of a tube amp. Finally, the Horseman lets you choose true bypass to keep your signal untouched, or activate a buffer for better signal integrity when you run multiple effects, avoiding signal loss. To choose, hold the footswitch while powering the pedal on, and the LED color indicates the selected mode (red for true bypass / green for buffered bypass). With all these features, the Horseman is truly a big overdrive/boost in a very compact package!
