SEYMOUR DUNCAN SSL-1-CSET
Vintage - SSL-1 Calibrated Kit
The Vintage Series single pickups are intended to replicate those of early Fender guitars.
A respected ancestor.
It's hard to believe that the Stratocaster dates back to 1954!"
In fact, this instrument retains its freshness and a design that's both restrained and
cool more than sixty years after its creation.
And of course, there's that sound, as
suitable for Shadows as Iron Maiden by way of Dire Straits or Pink
Floyd... Among the Strat's vintages, the early years are the most
reputed, before the switch to the rosewood fingerboard in 1959. And admittedly
the fifties models harbor a thickness and clarity that hasn't
been matched since.
A successful update.
But not all Strat's are extraordinary, far from
far from it! Many have too much of a subdued personality, lack body and don't
stand up well in the mix. Faced with this, installing new
microphones often remains the best solution to rediscover your instrument without
having to change it. Whether it's a mid-range guitar that needs to be upgraded
or an older guitar whose pickups haven't stood the test of time
the California 50's kit proves to be the indispensable reference at Seymour
Duncan.
One word for it: authentic
Seymour Duncan has worked on thousands of vintage Strats
and knows exactly what makes a great vintage mic. So he's found
exactly the same alloys (alnico 5 for the magnets, Formvar wire) as in
the old days, as well as the right pad height, perfect base thickness
and the reverse polarity of the center pickup, essential for avoiding background noise
and getting the characteristic attack on the intermediate positions.
The output level (6.5 kohms) is that of a mic in top form, intended for
a Strat that will never sound so good!
Large choice of variations
This
standard Seymour Duncan has been made into many versions to
satisfy as many needs : single pickup with stepped pads
(SSL-1), middle position with coil and reversed polarity
(SSL-1-RWRP), left-handed versions (SSL-1-L / SSL-1-L-RWRP), set of 3 standard
mics (SSL-1S), set of 3 "Calibrated" mics with harmonized
output levels (SSL-1-CSET-W).... but also in versions with unstaged
pads : SSL-2, suitable for handles with a less pronounced radius.
