The rich expression of the EDS-i sound engine, and a wide selection of 134 types of effects

The EDS-i Enhanced Definition Synthesis integrated sound engine inherits the long history of KORG's professional synthesizers. You can use a total of seven effect units simultaneously: five inserts and two masters. Tremendous expressiveness is available from the selection of 134 high-quality effects, including standard effects such as delay and reverb, as well as amp modeling, vintage effects units, and even a vocoder.

Sampling function and a pad sampler

The KROSS 2 is newly equipped with a unique sampling function accesible directly to the 16 Pads. You can record the input from the LINE IN jack and assign a stereo sample of up to 14 seconds to each pad. Up to four pads (i.e. 4 samples) can be triggered simultaneously. You can edit the sample waveform using functions such as start & end normalization loop point parameters etc., and even re-sample into the KROSS 2, allowing you to perform extended sampling without the need for additional equipment. Long audio files from an SD card can also be assigned to these pads.

Direct access to the sounds and functions you need

It's easy to navigate the KROSS 2, thanks to a user-friendly layout. The KROSS 2 control panel has been improved since the first KROSS, ensuring that anyone can quickly access the sounds and functions they want from the huge range of choices.

Real-time control section

The new real-time control section allows you to directly control the main parameters of the KROSS 2 without having to navigate a menu hierarchy. In addition to real-time control of sounds and effects, and simple program editing, you can use the knobs to easily control vocoder parameters or adjust the tempo of the arpeggiator and sequencer.

Favorites Function

The "Favorites" function allows you to save frequently used programs and combinations and recall them in one fell swoop, 128 slots are available, double the number of the first generation KROSS. This feature is ideal for live players who need quick access to a set of sound combinations on stage.

Quick Layer / Split Function

The layer / split function, which allows you to paste two sounds or assign separate sounds to the left and right regions of the keyboard, is now easier to set up, thanks to a dedicated quick layer / split button

Category Dial

With the category dial, this allows you to immediately find the sounds you're looking for from the wide range of choices. Simply choose the general type of sound, such as piano or organ, and then make your selection quickly and efficiently.

Extra light and compact with battery compartment

The 61-key model features a sleek new design, and its weight has been further reduced from the previous model's 4.3 kg to an even lighter 3.8 kg. Further improvements in energy efficiency allow up to seven hours of battery operation from six AA batteries. The 88-key model now provides an accessory compartment that can hold spare batteries or cables, as well as an easily accessible battery compartment. On both models, the KORG logo on the back panel is fully illuminated, allowing you to stand out on stage.

Audio player/recorder that you can easily trigger from the pads

The built-in stereo audio recorder allows you to record your KROSS 2 performance, or record an external input source like vocals. There is also a pad audio playback function that allows you to assign recorded sounds or audio files imported from an external source to each of the 16 pads for playback. Unlike the sampling function, this allows extended recording and playback that is limited only by the capacity of the SD card; you can hit a pad to play back an entire song's worth of media while you perform on the keyboard, or use the pads to trigger sound or background effects.

16-Track MIDI Sequencer

The 16-track MIDI sequencer records your keyboard performances and controller movements as MIDI data. It can also record your sampler performances via the Pads, allowing you to create sketchy ideas for songs.

Step sequencer

This lets you use the 16 pads to intuitively and quickly create original rhythmic patterns of up to 64 steps.

Drum track

The drum track lets you add rhythm to your performances simply by pressing a button. Choose from 772 preset drum patterns that cover a variety of styles.

Arpeggiator

This feature is a great way to generate ideas for songs; simply hold down the keys to generate rhythmic chords, low phrases or guitar drones.

Connect a microphone for a vocalist or instrumentalist using the internal vocoder.

The 6.35 jack MIC IN jack allows you to connect a microphone directly, so there's no need to provide a separate mixer when recording live. A vocoder function is also built in and you can easily make vocoder sounds with quick access via the real-time control section. There is also a stereo LINE INPUT mini-jack provided which is convenient for connecting your audio player for sampling.

Also functions as a USB audio interface

In addition to the USB MIDI interface functionality, the USB audio interface functionality has been newly added. You can connect the KROSS 2 to your Mac or Windows computer and enjoy DAW recording, or easily use the instrument to play with your iPad or iPhone. The KORG module's high-quality sound module app can be used as an external sound module that is played from the KROSS 2, or you can perform with support for tracks you created using the KORG Gadget DAW app, with the ease of simple cable connection.

A dedicated KROSS2 editor and plug-in editor are also provided. These allow you to edit while looking at many parameters at a glance on your computer, or allow you to use the KROSS 2 as a software synthesizer from your DAW.
