RADIAL ENGINEERING JDI-STEREO Direct boxes - Stereo passive D.I.
Direct Boxes - Passive Stereo Passive D.I.
Unlike an active DI - which is limited by the amplifier's buffer rail voltage - the Radial JDI Stereo employs a pair of Jensen audio transformers that both handle signal balancing and reduce impedance allowing for long cable runs. The magic comes from the Jensen transformers found in the circuit. Jensen transformers are known for their ability to properly handle transients while providing a silky smoothness reminiscent of vintage gear. With a flat response from 10 Hz to 40 kHz and virtually no phase deviation, the Radial JDI Stereo delivers the natural, pure sound of the instrument without artifact. In addition to converting the unbalanced signal to low impedance, the transformers also serve to isolate the input from the output by filtering out stray DC voltage that can cause noise and lead to so-called ground loops. The Radial JDI Stereo has a pair of jack connectors plus a -15dB input pad on each channel. The Radial JDI Stereo features a pair of jack connectors plus a -15dB input pad on each channel, complete with a ground lift switch that disconnects pin 1 of the two XLR outputs to reduce hum and buzz caused by ground loops. The steel used for the enclosure is extremely robust. The book format enclosure acts with the mu-metal transformer covers as a Faraday cage to protect against strong magnetic fields such as those generated by amplifiers. The original JDI has become the standard passive DI box for professional touring and studio use around the world. The stereo version will undoubtedly have the same destiny.
