Bridging the two inputs and the DR504’s reduced 50W output let you obtain the DR103’s wide tonal palette by blending the two channels to taste, while also reaching the brand’s signature crunch at “recording” volume. This natural, punchy drive carries a very personal British character thanks to its typical midrange boost, yet in a way very different from other major English brands.
As the speaker is one of the most decisive factors in Hiwatt’s sound throughout the brand’s history, the DR504 combo is fitted with the 75‑watt F75 model specially developed by Fane for Hiwatt amps. Of modern design, it perfectly conveys the amp’s character while meeting today’s expectations. It emphasizes the upper mids, yielding a clear, articulate, biting tone without being harsh on the ear. It also gives the impression of a much more present guitar. When pushed to its limits, it produces a subtle saturation that helps the guitar stand out even more in the mix.
